Pete Shanahan is currently dating samantha carter. The Two were set up by Mark Carter, Sams brother.

10/26/04 Updated * Pete gave Samantha Carter a diamond engagement ring on August 20th and she accepted. The two have now been engaged for about two months [considering he asked her on August 20th in episode Affinity]

Petes works in Denver Colorado he's a cop, he was in Colorado springs on a case and he met Samantha Carter. Pete and Carters relationship reached a new level when the two of them sleep together. Pete opend up to her and told her he's divorced. He describe his end of the married by saying "Did you ever see the episode where Barney comes home and all his stuff is on the front lawn with the divorce papers stapled on top? "

Pete claims he watched to much tv growing up. He watched Starsky and Hutch and Barney Miller. [cop shows] Barney Miller is his favorite show he says "Those guys never shot anybody, never beat anybody up".

Pete doesn't like singing in the rain he perfers cop movies. He's always been a fan of Fred Astair. He believes the term "Classic" is reserved for the likes of The French Connection, Dirty Harry and Serpico.

Since Sams line of work is top secret and everything she does is classified her cover story is working in deep space telemetry in Norad. She can't reveal what she really does and pete is upset by that. "How can we have a future if you won't share your life with me"

Pete called his buddy Dan Ferretty who works for the FBI and had dan do a background check on sam. Ferretty calls pete back and lets him know sams been scrubbed and is probably connected with some top level stuff. He tells pete that he might want to back off.

Pete's cop instinct kicks in and he followed sam to daniels house. There he finds a women 'Osiris' with glowing eyes, grabing his gun sams tells him it's no use. He noticed the glowing eyes and right there he knew thats not normal. Pete gets shot and sam promises if he makes it through she'll explain everything.

Sam finally gets to tell pete what she really does. She explains to him what shes about to reveal is classified under section 11C9 of the National Security Act. She tells him all about the stargate.

Pete put in a transfer to Colorado Springs PD so he can be closer to Sam. When asked if he was sure he replied with " I've never been more sure of anything in my entire life"

Pete Shanahan asked Samantha Carter to marry him on August 20, 2004 [episode Affinity] in a park. Though it took Samantha two weeks to answer Pete because she had things to work out and also didn't think it was fair going through the gate and her risking not coming back her exact works were " I mean every time we go through the gate we risk not coming back, is it fair to put somebody else through that?"

Sam finally said yes to pete.

Pete also has a very good sense of humor.

As the two go ahead with the wedding plans and Pete goes ahead and buys a house. In episode "Threads" original air date 03/11/05 Pete finally gets the chance to meet his future father-in-law, retired General Jacab Carter. Their encounter had been awkward and due to her father's failing health Sam was forced to reconsider their future together Sam finaly called off the wedding, leading the break-up not going so well with Pete. Did You Know?

Pete became a cop because when he was little he had a rough time. He said he probably would of ended up in jail if it wasn't for this one particular cop who took an interest in him. He made a difference in his life and he admired that.
Considering pete first appeared in episode 'chimera' it aired 1/30/04 so that means the two have been dating for about 7 months.
